Website Review: Machine Learning for Kids

Today’s #FunDataFriday article is about a website called “Machine Learning for Kids”
What is it?
“Machine Learning for Kids” is a website that educates children on the subject of machine learning through hands on play. In under 10 minutes, kids can train a word or image classifier and test it out. The tool is built and maintained by Dale Lane using APIs from IBM Watson.
Why is it Awesome?
It’s awesome because it teaches kids an abstract topic like machine learning through practical experience. It’s incredibly simple to add the training content and kick off the model training through the UI.
Below is an example of how easy it is to set up an image classifier. Simply enter the image data, and kick off the classifier training.
Shortly, the classifier will be trained and the kids can test out how accurate it is!
From here, we can keep training and testing the model or deploy the model to an educational coding platform like Scratch or App Inventor.
How to get Started?
Go to your projects page
Click “Add a new Project”. Follow the prompts and enter the project name and what would like to classify
Set up the project - Train it and test it out!
Optionally, you can make something with it. However, a lot can be learned just by training and testing the model.
